How MIT calculates GPA
- Scale: Plus/minus 4.0 scale. A+ counts as 5.0.
- Repeat policy: The most recent attempt replaces the earlier grade.
- Withdraw policy: W appears on the transcript but does not affect GPA.
- Pass/Fail: Pass/Fail courses are excluded from the GPA.
Honor thresholds
- Dean's List: ≥ 3.50 (typical; verify with your specific college within the university)
- Cum Laude: ≥ 3.50
- Magna Cum Laude: ≥ 3.70
- Summa Cum Laude: ≥ 3.90
School-specific notes
- MIT internally uses a 5.0 scale (A=5.0, B=4.0, C=3.0). For external GPA
- comparison it's typically converted to 4.0 scale (A=4.0).
